What is the Law and Ethics Exam?
The California Law and Ethics Exam is a 90-minute, 75 question test that was created to ensure that unlicensed Marriage and Family Therapists understand the specific laws and ethics that govern clinical practice. Only 50 of the 75 questions are scored; the remaining 25 questions are pre-test items included to measure their effectiveness for use on future exams. Passing the Law and Ethics Exam is required in order to obtain your license as an LMFT in the state of California. The exam is administered by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS).
What is the MFT California Clinical Exam?
The Clinical Exam includes 170 multiple-choice questions, of which 20 are not scored, and is delivered over 4 hours. It tests your knowledge of how to handle specific scenarios within the Marriage and Family Therapy field. The exam is administered by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS).
What is the National MFT Exam?
The National Exam consists of objective multiple-choice questions covering knowledge essential to the professional practice of marital and family therapy. Each form of the examination contains 180 items and all items are counted in computing the candidate’s score. Candidates are allowed four hours to complete the examination. The exam is administered by the Association of Marriage and Family Therapy Regulatory Boards (AMFTRB).
