Bio: Jennifer Kolb, LCSW; Social Work Consultant, reviewed and determined the course meets requirements for continuing education in the field of social work. This course is appropriate for masters and clinical level social workers. Jennifer graduated with a Master’s degree in Social Work with a specialization in Marriage and Family Therapy from the University of Louisville, Kentucky. She specializes in school-based psychotherapy with children and adolescents, as well as licensing exam coaching and preparation.

Course Description: Did you know that the state of California has the largest population of children in the foster care system? The demand for skilled social workers and mental health professionals in this field is at an all-time high. They must know how the intricate system operates and how to assist foster children and families successfully. This course will provide you with current information available about the foster care system and pertinent policies and legislations. You will learn the steps involved with removing a child from their home, creating a thorough social work assessment for an appropriate placement, and making a treatment plan for mental health providers. You will also receive descriptions of common behaviors and mental health issues found in foster children in order to work with this population most effectively.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Identify the key legislation that was enacted to promote child welfare throughout the foster and adoption process.
  2. Describe at least three reasons why children are removed from their home by child protective services.
  3. Summarize the role of the foster parent.
  4. Explain the main differences between foster care from kinship foster care.

Course Completion Requirements:

Attendees must be present for the duration of the training as evidenced by the attendance report generated by Zoom, as well as complete the course evaluation to receive a certificate of credit. 

Evaluation:

The course evaluation is accessible in your student account. After completing the training, log into your GGS student account to complete the course evaluation. 

How certificate is issued:

Upon verification of attendance and completion of the course evaluation, each participant will be able to access a personal CE certificate of attendance in their student account.
