Bio: Jennifer Kolb, LCSW; Social Work Consultant, reviewed and determined the course meets requirements for continuing education in the field of social work. This course is appropriate for masters and clinical level social workers. Jennifer graduated with a Master’s degree in Social Work with a specialization in Marriage and Family Therapy from the University of Louisville, Kentucky. She specializes in school-based psychotherapy with children and adolescents, as well as licensing exam coaching and preparation.

Course Description:

This course is designed to teach awareness, knowledge, and understanding of issues related to cultural diversity and social justice as they apply to clinical practice. Students will gain an understanding of current terminology, theoretical frameworks, and considerations for practice. The topics in this course include cultural diversity, social justice, intersectionality, lived experience, microaggression, macroaggression, equality vs. equity, power and privilege, and oppression and marginalization. This course meets the requirements set forth by the California Board of Psychology for 4 CEs in Cultural Diversity and Social Justice.

 

California Psychology Definitions of Cultural Diversity and Social Justice

 

Cultural Diversity pertains to differences in age, race, culture, ethnicity, nationality, immigration status, gender identity, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, religion/spirituality, and physical ability. 

 

Social Justice pertains to the historical, social, and political inequities in the treatment of people from non-dominant groups, while addressing the various injustices and different types of oppression that contribute to individual, family and community psychological concerns.

 

Learning Objectives:

 

Participants will be able to…

 

1.     Provide three current examples of social injustice in the field of psychology.

2.     Define equality and equity and provide a clear distinction between these two concepts.

3.     Evaluate a client’s presenting concerns using one critical theory.

4.     Identify two changes practitioners can make in their own practice to provide more equitable care.

5.     Approach one case conceptualization with a systems perspective.

 

Course Completion Requirements:

Attendees must be present for the duration of the training as evidenced by the attendance report generated by Zoom, as well as complete the course evaluation to receive a certificate of credit.

How certificate is issued:

Upon verification of attendance and completion of the course evaluation, each participant will be able to access a personal CE certificate of attendance in their student account.
