This course focuses on the pioneering work of Martin Seligman, former President of the American Psychological Association. We present the historical context of Positive Psychology and how it differs from more traditional approaches to psychology and psychotherapy; we provide recent research and findings on the impact of strengths and virtues, optimism, resilience, gratitude and flow; and identify the keys to Authentic Happiness. In addition, a learner will develop an understanding of how to incorporate Positive Psychology interventions into their work with clients. Finally, we postulate the future of Positive Psychology and its potential impact on both our institutions and our communities.
