Psychotherapy with Muslim Clients Online Text-based Home Course (3 CE)

This presentation provides an overview of religious and cultural beliefs of Muslim clients and their impact upon the therapeutic process. It describes the cultural and religious perspectives of counseling specific to Muslims. Also addressed is the Islamic family system to provide a context for understanding the historical and current contributors to presenting problems in therapy. It describes the factors of treatment style and planning that impact effectiveness, for example, the culturally-sensitive ways to build rapport, choosing the family or individual therapy, and use of religion or spirituality. Also with an eye for cultural considerations, some typical clinical presentations are discussed with guidance for how to address them for this population.
