Helping Children Deal With Grief Online Text-based Course (3 CE)

Children grieve in uniquely different ways compared to adults and unprocessed childhood grief can negatively shape psychological development. Childhood grief can be delayed, surfacing during episodes of change, or during the identity struggles of adolescence. This course presents common symptoms of children's grief and ways for therapists to assess it based upon their age and developmental stage. It also describes the impact of different kinds of grief, such as grief induced by the death of a family member or traumatic grief and helping caregivers manage memorial services and the care of the child. Typical tasks and interventions for working with children's grief are described, making note of different cultural expressions to which a therapist may have to adjust.
