LMFTs and LCSWs: 36 hours every 2 years, 18 hours for the first renewal period
All of Gerry Grossman Seminars CE courses are approved.
Gerry Grossman Seminars is BBS CE Provider #PCE1292.
Home Study. The California BBS says that Self-Study courses can only
account for 1/3 of your CE hours, while "Interactive" courses can count for 100%. This is how the BBS defines it:
"The difference between self-study and electronic courses comes down to the method of the post-test. Even if the method of learning is the same (reading a book, watching a video), if the post-test is submitted to the provider through the mail, those hours will be considered self-study (this method is limited to 1/3 of the total hours required per two-year renewal period). If the post-test is submitted electronically, the hours will be considered regular CE hours. (electronically includes fax)."
Lorie Kiley, BBS, 2/24/2005
The California Board of Behavioral Sciences requires their LMFTs and LCSWs to take certain CE courses at specific times. Following are the required subjects, along with the specific Gerry Grossman Seminars CE course that satisfies each one:
1. Spousal or Partner Abuse
This is a one-time course in spousal or partner abuse assessment, detection, and intervention strategies including community resources, cultural factors, and same gender abuse dynamics. Our Domestic Violence course satisfies this requirement.
2. Law and Ethics
Six hours of Law and Ethics CE are required in every license renewal period. Our Law and Ethics course is up-to-date, and will continue to be revised to reflect changes in the current legal and ethical environment.
3. Aging and Long Term Care
This one-time 3-hour course is required for those who began graduate study prior to January 1, 2004 and are renewing after January 1, 2005. Take our Issues with Aging course to satisfy this requirement.
4. HIV/AIDS
This is a one-time requirement due with your first renewal. We offer an HIV/AIDS course that satisfies the seven hour length and content specifications. Note the exception described on the BBS web page:
"Exception: If you have taken HIV/AIDS courses in the past, or if you have equivalent teaching or practice experience, you do not need to retake the HIV/AIDS courses. Previous coursework or experience cannot be credited towards your CE hours."
5. Supervision Training
If you are a clinical supervisor you are required to obtain six hours of Supervision Training each renewal period. Our Clinical Supervision course satisfies this requirement and will provide an overview of the basic regulations and procedures pertaining to this specialized area of clinical practice.
